Optimization of a Dual band RF Coil antenna for 7T MRI based on metamaterials

Description
Metamaterials can provide properties beyond those found in nature. These artificial materials are promising solution for the realization of original, efficient and miniaturized devices in microwaves. Our team has realized theoretical and experimental research in this domain that spreads from fundamental explorations of physics to actual device design.

Recently, we have developed an original and efficient RF coil for 7T MRI based on metamaterials that provides a wide aperture for the user [1]. The proposed coil, called â”Opencage”, is a head coil working at 300 MHz for 7T MRI applications that was designed in the scope of the European project M-Cube (Metamaterials for MRI). In this internship, we propose to extend the “Opencage” coil design to dual band MRI applications.

The candidate will be involved in the theoretical modelling and in the numerical validation of the dual band “opencage” coil. The first part of the internship will deal with the design and the optimization of the structure. In the second part, the candidate will perform numerical validations through full wave simulations. Finally, Microwave and MRI experiments could be achieved to characterize the dual band “Opencage” coil.
