  • Laboratory: ICTEAM Institute
    Scientist leader: Prof. Christophe Craeye
    • Key personnel
    • Prof. Christophe Craeye, is born in 1971, PhD in Electrical Engineering (radar remote sensing) in 1998, Assistant Professor at UCL in 2002, Associate Professor in 2005 and Professor in 2009.
He is an expert in antenna technology, applications of metamaterials and numerical methods for high-frequency electromagnetics.
Position: Professor at Université catholique de Louvain
Award: 2005-2009: Vanderlinden prize from Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences
Author and co-author of 64 papers in international journals and of about 180 conference papers, of which about 80 invited in special sessions.
Associate Editor: IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation (2004-2010), Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (2011-now).
Short description of work experience relevant to the proposal:
With his team has demonstrated the reception of MRI images from outside the MRI tunnel via a collimating metamaterial and has developed
several software packages for the efficient and accurate numerical analysis of fields in periodic media, such as metamaterials.
Performance of this software is in constant progress. Expert in the field of mutual coupling between antennas in dense arrays.
Role in the project: leader of WP5 on bulk metamaterials, numerical study and optimization of metamaterials for MRI, participation to determination of specifications and to experimental validation.

    • Donia Oueslati received a Degree in Electronics, Computer and Information Science from the University Tunis El Manar (UTM), Tunisia in 2008 and the Master thesis in System of Communications from National Engineering School of Tunis, Tunisia in 2011. She received the PhD in Engineering Sciences from Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium and in Telecommunication from UTM in 2017. From April 2017 to August 2018, she was a Post- Doctoral Researcher with Antenna Lab, Université Catholique de Louvain, in collaboration with EMC Lab, University of central Florida, Orlando, Florida, USA, and ECE Department, King Abdulaziz University, Saoudi arabia. Since September 2018, she is working as post-doc research assistant at University Catholique de Louvain.
Her research mainly focuses on the development of a modal analysis methods for printed structures based on the Method of Moments and singular decomposition to identify a chipless Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and to localize a reader. Her research interests include Ultra-Wideband (UWB) optical rectennas for Solar Energy Harvesting, investigation of irregular fractal antennas, as well as on low profile antenna array and array optimization for 5G applications.

    • Chan-Sun Park

Chan-Sun Park received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electronic and electrical engineering from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, in 2012 and 2019, respectively. He is currently continuing his research as a PostDoc in the Université catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. His current research interests include numerical electromagnetics, integral equation-based methods and magnetic resonance imaging.

    • Farzad Jabbari Gargari

Farzad Jabbari Gargari received his Bachelor degree (2013) and Master degree (2016) in Electrical Engineering from Urmia University, Urmia, Iran. Currently he is pursuing his PhD at Université catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in electrical engineering and working on MetaMaterials antenna for ultra-high field MRI. His current research interests include numerical electromagnetics and MRI antenna.

    • Denis Tihon received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in physical engineering from the Université catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in 2011 and 2013, respectively. Since 2013, he is working as a teaching assistant in Ecole polytechnique de Louvain, in the ICTEAM institue. He finished his PhD thesis in 2018 about numerical methods in computational electromagnetism and the absorption of partially coherent fields in collaboration with the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, UK. He is currently continuing his research as a PostDoc. His current research interests include integral equation-based methods, absorption of partially coherent fields and black-body radiation.

Université catholique de Louvain has been created in 1425, it has about 25.000 students in about all fields of university education, it is ranked 172 in the 2013-2014 Times Magazine ranking.
The Institute involved is the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Electronics and Applied Mathematics (ICTEAM). Its fields of research are applied mathematics, biomedical engineering, communication systems and networks, cryptography and information security, dynamical systems, control and optimization, electronic circuits and systems, large graphs and networks, machine learning and artificial intelligence, micro and nano-technologies and systems, microwave engineering and applied electromagnetism, signal and image processing, software engineering and programming systems. The Group involved in this project is led by Prof. Christophe Craeye and focuses on antenna technology, metamaterials and numerical methods for high-frequency electromagnetics in complex media, based on integral-equation approaches. The Group has demonstrated in 2007-2009 the reception of MRI images from outside the MRI tunnel using a collimating wire-medium metamaterial.
