Objectives: Developing 3D periodic metamaterials to (1) Displace or collimate the RF field toward a region where the constant magnetic field has become negligible, where amplifiers with a better noise figure can be used. (2) Ensure a uniform distribution of the incident RF field over the whole body, especially for high-field imaging. (3) Spread the peaks of RF field to reduce the specific absorption rate (SAR). (4) Concentrate the RF field in specific regions of the body for specific types of images (e.g. alternatives to endorectal coils for prostate observations).
